Could robots become so intelligent that they can give an interview on television?

It happened when “Sophia” appeared on ITV’s breakfast show “This Morning”.

Sophia, a creation of Hong Kong based Hanson Robotics, has been designed to minic human behavior.

Sophia is a social humanoid robot. Cameras within Sophia’s eyes combined with computer algorithms allow her to see. She can follow faces, sustain eye contact, and recognize individuals. She is able to process speech and have conversations.

In January 2018 Sophia was upgraded with functional legs and the ability to walk.

Sophia’s creator David Hanson said that Sophia would ultimately be a good fit to serve in healthcare, customer service, therapy and education. Sophia runs on artificially intelligent software that is constantly being trained in the lab, so her conversations are likely to get faster.

Sophia recently gave her first interview to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on ITV’s “This Morning” where she answered Holly’s and Phillip’s questions, revealed that she could draw accurately, and that she had participated in New York’s Fashion Week.
